Store Cattle

The weekly sale of store cattle, sold under the new regulation’s due coronavirus, met a trade that saw the cattle sell beyond many seller’s expectations. We thank the vendors who put their trust in us to sell cattle on their behalf with vendors more than satisfied with prices achieved.

Leading the way was Limousin bullocks from J Prest & Son, Bay Horse selling to £1310. This was followed by Limousin bullocks from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton selling to £1270 and £1250. Fleckvieh bullocks peaked at £1260 from S Kellet & Sons, Pilling. Angus bullocks peaked at £1260 from G Sagar & Son, Caton followed by others to £1250 from R Escolme, Bay Horse. Simmental bullocks sold to £1240 from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet with Continentals to £1240 from J Lamb, Old Glasson and Norwegian Reds to the same price from J Prest & Son. Plenty more bullocks sold around the £1200 mark.

Heifers sold to a top of £1190 for British Blues from JS & KM Wilson & Son, Natland followed by other British Blues to £1170 from JB Moore, Grange over Sands. Angus heifers peaked at £1130 from J Hesketh, Hutton.

Black and white bullocks sold to a top of £1120 from EE Thornton & Sons.

Cast Cows

There was a much smaller offering of cast cows on offer this week with all buyers in attendance looking to purchase. We request vendors to pre-enter their OTM Cattle so that buyers can be advised and asked that all stock is forward by 10.15am. There was an overall market average of 106p/kg.

Leading the way today was Limousin cows selling to 141.5p/kg from JA & J Harper, Killington with other Limousin cows selling to £950 from T Allen & Co, Middleton. Dairy cows sold to a top of 199.5p/kg for Swedish Red Cows from D Hargreaves & Son, Kirkham with Black and White cows to 109.5p/kg or £787 from HJ Robinson & Son, Preston Patrick.

Calves

There was an entry of 65 calves forward this week which were well bid for considering the current situation. Leading the way was British Blue bull calves selling to £300 from D Hargreaves & Son, Kirkham with other British Blue bulls selling to £205 from Richmond Hall Farm, Cockerham and J Hoggarth & Son, Slyne. Angus bull calves peaked at £240 from D Hargreaves & Son. The heifer trade peaked at £224 and £220 from J Hoggarth & Son. Plenty of beef calves easily sold in excess of the £200 mark.

Friesian bull calves sold to £95 and £80 from WB Casson & Sons, Nether Kellet with others to £80 from WN & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham.
