North West Auctions Dairy sale tops at £2400
The monthly sale of dairy at NWA Lancaster saw a keen ring side of buyers in attendance who were attracted by the quality of cattle forward, for which the Lancaster Dairy sale has become well known for. All classes and types were a fast trade and under the guidance of auctioneer Matthew Probert achieved an overall market average of £1960.
A consignment of heifers from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale topped todays sale with ‘Pennine Poppy 1469’ bred from 5 generations of VG/EX and giving 35litres sold for £2400 to Messrs Dixon, Carlisle. Messrs Dixon also paid £2100 for ‘Pennie Crocus 281’ giving 33 litres, again, from Messrs Drinkall Bros. The sale commenced with ‘Garsby Moza Sylvia’ from returning vendors W & G Cornthwaite & Son, Garstang which sold to Wannop Farms Ltd for £2080. A further two heifers both from Messrs Drinkall sold at £2020 and £2000. B & V Swann, Brindle presented a pair of heifers which saw ‘Carwood Penley Seabreeze’, having calved two weeks and giving 27litres, sell at £1920 to S Forshaw & Sons, Longridge. ‘Carwood Penley Daisy’ giving 29litres sold to Wannop Farms Ltd for £1800. Messrs R Lawson & Son sold ‘Deerslet Clown Carol’ bred from 2 generations of VG, being ten days calved and showing lots of potential achieving £1550.
Once again, all dairy cattle at NWA Lancaster attracted keen interest from buyers with several new and returning faces in attendance. The next dairy sale at Lancaster is on Tuesday 21st July with an anticipated entry of 30 to 40 newly calved cows and heifers.
