Lancaster Livestock Auction: Dairy Cattle - Tuesday 21st July

NWA Lancaster held its monthly dairy cattle sale on Tues 21st July and was, once again, a pleasure to welcome new buyers and sellers to this popular sale. On a week of fine weather many farmers were busy gathering crops, however, those attending where rewarded with a fast and competitive trade for all classes and types. The buyers had an opportunity to purchase pedigree and commercial cattle suitable for all farming systems. Many more dairy cattle are required to meet the high demand, the next sale of dairy cattle is on Tuesday 18th August 2020.

Today’s sale saw a top price of £2420 achieved by returning vendors, Lawsons Farm ltd, Cockerham who sold ‘Sweetings Sing Star Amanda’, calved on 28th June and giving an impressive 40ltrs, she was bred from a dam having just giving 17000ltrs in her 2nd lactation and was purchased by a new south Lancashire buyer. Another heifer from Lawson Farm Ltd, ‘Sweetings Buffalo Linda’, giving 30ltrs and from a long line of powerful cows, sold at £1950 to MJ & K Ayrton, Thurnham.

M J & H Atkinson, Quernmore sold ‘Wyredale Rambo Diana 81’, bred from 2 generations of VG and giving 31ltrs, at £2250 to another Lancashire buyer. This was closely followed by Messrs Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale selling ‘Pennine Graceful 79’, bred from an EX90 Dam line and giving 34ltrs, to Bradleys Farm ltd, Preesall. Messrs Drinkall Bros later sold ‘Pennine Moonbeam 160’ at £1950 and ‘Pennine Peace 804’ at £1880.

H & SD Cornthwaite & Son, Kirkland sold ‘Kirkwood Hurst Signet’, bred from 5 generations of VG and giving 29ltrs at only 9 days calved, at £1820 to W & MM Case, Ulverston. A trio of heifers from the Robanne herd of R & A Jolleys, Cabus attracted several admirers selling to £1780 for ‘Robanne Billflake 2’ to Bradleys Farms Ltd, Preesall.

A true Fresian type heifer from JT & U Garth, Ellel sold at £1520.

A V Lord & Co, Aldingham sold ‘Goadsbarrow Sincere 58’ which attracted much pre-sale interest, being from the renowned sincere family, with no less than two phone bidders and 4 ringside bidders seeing a final successful bid of £2020 from Bradleys Farms.
