Prime Hoggs
Lancaster weekly sale of Prime Hoggs had an increased entry of 706 forward. The market average was slightly less this week with 231p/kg achieved with a larger proportion of hill bred hoggs forward this week and not as many good quality hoggs on offer. It was the consignment of Texels from T & CM Kelsall, Chipping that led the way this week selling heavyweights to £143 and £137.50. The consignment of heavyweight Texels from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth sold to £138, £135.50, £135, £131 and £129. Other notable Texel prices selling to £135, £129 from JW & SE Drinkwater, Quernmore, £132 from AT Alcock, Inskip and £129 and £128 from A Butler, Hambleton. Continental hoggs sold to £132 from D Gardner, Brookhouse with Suffolks selling to £131 from AG Butler, Hambleton and £130 from T Smith, Pilling. Too many more pens of Texel and Suffolk hoggs sold in the £120s to mention. Hill bred hoggs saw Cheviots sell to £120 from AT Alcock with Mules selling to £114 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton and others to £112 from W & A Cornall, Barnacre. There was plenty more pens of mid 40kg+ Mules selling between £100 and £110. Beltex hoggs sold to top of 293p/kg or £120 from GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston purchase by Gregory Williams Butchers, Lancaster.
Texels sold to 290p/kg or £124.50 from P Lawrenson & Son, Chorley with others Texels twice selling to 288p/kg or £121 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe and GH Sanderson & Family. This was closely followed by 287p/kg or £132 from AT Alcock. Plenty more pens of good conformation hoggs selling between 260-280p/kg.
Horned hoggs topped at £92 weighing 42kg for Lonks from AG Butler, Hambleton with Swaledales selling to £90 from GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston and £89 for Scottish Blackfaces from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday.

Cast Sheep
There was a similar number of Cast Sheep forward this week, once again, meeting plenty of demand. It was Texel cast rams that topped the market today from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham with Texel ewes from the same home selling to £119. Leicester ewes peaked at £117 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale with the consignment from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday selling Suffolks to £114 and Continentals to £109. Plenty of Continental and Suffolk ewes sold in the early one hundreds. Mule ewes sold to a peak of £103 from T Ayrton & Sons, with plenty of pens of Mule ewes selling in the nineties.
Horned sheep saw Lonks sell to £103 from S Bosworth, Burnley with Swaledale ewes to £76 from W & A Cornall, Barnacre with Cheviot ewes to £84 from RM & PM Simpson, Troutbeck.
Upland tups saw Swaledales sell to £80 from T Ayrton & Sons and Herdwicks to £75 from RM & PM Simpson.
