Dairy sell to £2650 at NWA Lancaster Christmas Dairy Sale
The Christmas show and sale of Dairy Cattle at North West Auctions Lancaster saw an attractive catalogued entry of both pedigree and commercial cattle attract buyers from throughout the northern counties, Cheshire and a successful sale to an Irish customer.
The pre-sale show was judged by Mr G Bradley, Preesall who awarded the Championship rosette to ‘Bilsrow Applejax Rolls’ shown by Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, which was pulled out from a very strong class of 10. The Reserve rosette was won by ‘Elitestreet Minnesota Modesty’ shown by A & J A Barrow, Winsford. The cow class was won by A V Lord & Co showing ‘Goadsbarrow Dusky 35’.
Vendors are to be complimented on the quality of cattle presented at today’s sale for which they were duly rewarded with a fast trade with an abundance of buyers in attendance with several new and returning faces.
The sale topped at £2,650 for the much admired ‘Phoenix Windstorm J Wendy’ from A Swale, Blackburn bred from 5 generations of VG/EX and giving a current yield of 31 litres, she will soon be at her new home across the water in Northern Ireland. She was closely followed by the show champion ‘Bilsrow Applejax Rolls’, on behalf of Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, from 8 generations of VG/EX cows selling at £2,600.
A pair of heifers from E H & R Eccles, Chorley saw ‘Denhamhill Morley Sonya 4’ sell at £2,480 with ‘Denhamhill Marley Jenny’ selling at £2,420.
‘Pennine Bolivia 12’ from Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead found a new home in Cheshire at £2,400 with B & V Swann, Chorley selling ‘Carwood Jonas Amethyst 46’ at £2,320 to the same purchaser. ‘Blackwood Embla 508’ from J T & B Fox, Quernmore also achieved £2,320. A trio of well bred heifers from A & A J Barrow, Winsford sold to £1,950 for ‘Elitestreet Minnesota Modesty’ with ‘Fortune Showbiz Sofia Spirit’ bred from 12 Generations VG/EX selling at £1,920.
Unregistered heifers sold to £1920 for a ‘Pello’ sired heifer consigned by R L & J Crowe, Ulverston.
Pedigree cows saw a top price of £2,380 being paid for ‘Wyredale Control Bendy 203’ from MJ & H Atkinson, Quernmore with a trio from the ‘Goadsbarrow’ herd of A V Lord & Co, Aldingham selling to £1,980 for ‘Goadsbarrow Dusky 35’ and a special note to ‘Goadsbarrow Sunray 11’, fresh into her 6th Lactation at £1,680.

The consignment of in-calf cows on behalf of Messrs Halpin, Barrow in Furness all due Jan/Feb to a Holstein bull sold to £1,020 with others achieving £980, £960.
