Another busy Friday at Lancaster with over 500 head of cattle being sold through three rings!

Another strong Store Cattle sale at Lancaster with all stores forward averaging £1058!

266 Store Cattle saw all classes well bid for with a top price of £1370 achieved three times! T & E Garlic & Son, Preston sold tow Angus bullocks to £1370 followed by EW & CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmin for a Shorthorn bullock. Charolais bullocks this week sold to £1360 from DR Preston, Caton with TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe selling Angus bullocks to the same price. Simmental cattle also sold over the £1300 mark, topping at £1320 from H Hesketh & Sons, Longton. Plenty more pens of strong, well-fleshed bullocks sold over £1300. £1290 was achieved numerous times for bullocks which included British Blues from M Shepherd & Sons, Pillings and Angus’ from DR Preston, EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton and J Oddie & Son, Blackburn. Plenty more Continental and Native bred bullocks sold in the mid to late twelve hundreds.

Heifers this week sold to a top of £1310 for a pen of five Augus’ from T Robson & Son, Singleton who sold others at £1270. Limousin heifers this week sold to £1250 from JG & BJ Escolme, Killington with British Blues selling to £1200 from BW & G Robinson, Ingleton. Plenty other heifers sold in the late eleven hundreds.

Dairy bullocks topped at £1130 today from GE & AP Hewitt, Cockerham and J & RE Baines, Sedbergh. LA Bradshaw, Stalmine sold a pen of four Friesians to £1060.

Cast Cows

What can only be described as an off the clock trade for Cast Cows with a record entry for August of 162 cattle going under Gary’s gavel that averaged 140.29p/kg. Clearing the £1500 barrier today was a Charolais cow making £1508 from Ballacutchel Farms, Isle of Man. Limousin cows made over 200p/kg from T & M Halhead, Priest Hutton grossing at £116.50 with other beef bred cows selling at 197p/kg and 189p/kg.

Dairy cows today saw cows sell to 147.5p/kg from BW & LM Kirkby, Wennington and S Kellet & Sons, Pilling or £1124.93 from Lawsons Farm, Cockerham, other dairy sold at 144.5p/kg. MRI cattle from Barlow Bros, Preston made 149.5p/kg or £1016.

OTM Heifers from EJ Ward& Sons, Intack sold to a top of 201.5p/kg for a Simmental. Stabiliser heifers from JA & R Geldard, Levens sold to 199.5p/kg and Limousins sold to 194.5p/kg from T & M Halhead. Friesian heifers sold to 164.5p/kg from WT Whitaker, Nether Kellet with others to 161.5p/kg from Wannop Farms, Heaton with Oxcliffe.

Cast steers topped at £125.83 for an Angus from Ballacutchel Farms with Limousins from Cowell & Moore, Wood Plumpton to £1220.40, with plenty of others over the £1000 mark.

A larger entry of cast bulls today with British Blues selling to a fast trade and topping at £1591 from MA & JA Winn, Burneside with others from Ballacutchel Farms to £1345 for a Charolais. Herefords from WG Farms, Cockerham sold to £1089 with all cast bulls averaging 147.27p/kg.

Calves & Stirks

Cracking off the day was calves with an entry of 98 selling to a red hot trade! Topping the market today was a terrific British Blue bull at £500 from regular supporter J & H Thornley, Roseacre. Other British Blue bulls today made £465 and £445 from JP & C Robson, Garstang. Wannops Farms Ltd, Heaton with Oxcliffe also getting over the £400 barrier with a British Blue at £405. Limousin bulls today topped at £425 for a shapely 2-month-old calf with others from the same good home making £345. Angus bulls also topped at £425 from FA Brown & Son, Burton in Kendal, who had other Angus bulls to £400. A consignment of Herefords from TE & MM Kidd, Ellel saw bulls at £275 and £265.

Heifer calves today saw trade as good as previous weeks with British Blues topping at £465, again, from J & G Thornley, Roseacre. Other Blues sold to £300 from V & EJ Chadwick & Sons, St Michaels. Limousin heifers topped at £305 from DJ Clarke Farming, Garstang. Aberdeen Angus heifers were very sought after today topping at £265 from Tom Barron Farms, Wood Plumpton who sold other at £250. TE & MM Kidd sold Herefords achieving the top price of £220, selling other well-reared calves at £215.

A smaller show of Friesian bulls today topped at £165 from AD & RL Milner, Claughton on Brock with others at £128 from T & CM Kelsall, Chipping. Smaller Friesian calves made between £55 and £65 today with plenty of buyers for those types.
