Prime Lambs
There was an entry of 466 Prime Lambs this week selling to an improved market average of 165p/kg with lambs weighing between 45kg and 50kg averaging 169p/kg. Top pence per kilo was 205p/kg or £88 a head for Texels from AG Butler, Hambleton purchased by Gregory William Butchers, Lancaster. Plenty of pens of better conformation lambs were selling 180p/kg plus. Texel lambs sold to a top of £93 a head from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers. Other Texels sold to £92 from JM & MH France & Son, Littledale, £90 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof, £89 from T & CM Kelsall & Son, Chipping with plenty more pens selling in the mid-eighties. Hill bred lambs saw heavyweight Swaledales sell to £72 from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead, with Mules selling to £68 form M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale.
Cast Sheep
There was a slightly sharper trade for cast ewes this week with Continental ewes from AR Gornall, Crosthwaite selling to £96 with Suffolks from the same home selling to £94. Plenty more ewes sold around the £80 mark. Mule ewes sold to a top of £64 from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel.
Store Lambs
The fortnightly sale of Store Lambs had a slightly reduced entry forward this week selling to another strong trade. Topping the market at £58.50 was AR Gornall, Crosthwaite with Texel lambs with Beltex lambs selling to a top of £56 from IT Richardson, Catforth. There was an overall market average of £54.40.
