Store Cattle

The weekly sale of store cattle had an entry well over three hundred this week selling to a very competitive trade considering the drop in deadweight price. Leading the way was a consignment of Angus bullocks from Jim Clark, Preston selling to £1290, £1280 and £1260. Limousin bullocks sold to a top of £1260 from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbleystead. Other notable prices for Angus bullocks were a pen of three from R Escolme, Bay Horse selling to £1250 and GF & EE Holt, Chipping selling to £1210. Heifers topped at £1160 for Limousins from J Hartley & Sons, West House with other Limousins selling to the same price from A Clark & Johnson, Windermere. Angus heifers topped at £1160 from Jim Clark. Black and whites sold to a top of £1070 from EW & RM Towers, Hornby for a feeding heifer with Black and white bullocks topping at £1060 from L Parsons & Sons, Levens with other black and white bullocks selling to £1000 from J Hartley & Sons, West House.

OTM Cattle

There was a much improved entry of 110 cast cows on the market today which sold to a flying trade beating other local auction marts and the price out doing deadweight as well. Leading the way today was OTM Angus Heifers from GR & A Foy, Conder Green selling to 184.5p/kg with Limousins selling to a top of 179.5p/kg from RH & RA Fawcett, Burton. OTM Black and white heifers topped at 159.5p/kg twice, firstly from J & R Waller, Killington and secondly from EE Thornton & Son, Heaton. Cast Cows saw Limousin sell to a top of 147.5p/kg from JG & PH Thompson, Selside. Plenty of beef cows sold in the 130p/kg mark. Cast cows sold to a top of £1107 from P & M Crackles, Burrow. Best well-fleshed black and white cows were regularly selling into the 120p/kg mark. There was an overall market average of 112p/kg with more cows needed for our busy ring of buyers.

Calves and Stirks

There was another entry of 85 Calves and Stirks forward this week which was met by plenty of demand and it was great to have a couple of new and returning vendors selling today and leaving well satisfied. Calves sold to a top of £400 for British Blues from J & G Thornley, Kirkham closely followed by other British Blues selling to £365 from J & M Sanderson, Kirkham. British Blue heifers topped at £355 from J & M Sanderson, plenty of British Blue calves sold in the mid three hundred range. Angus bull calves sold to a top of £318 from D & J Hay, Cockerham. Strong Friesian bull calves sold a top of £150 and £130 from DJ Hay, Cockerham with plenty of rearing calves selling around the £80 mark. A handful of stirks on offer today saw 6 month old British Blue bullocks sell to £525 from PS & H Eckersley, Mellor.
