Store Cattle

Steers acheieved a top price of £1370 for Charolais x from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland with others selling to £1310 from H Chapman & Son, Middleton. Heavy steers sold from £1180 to £1380 which included Aberdeen Angus x achieving £1300 from L Parsons & Sons, Levens. Dairy steers sold to £1130 for Montbeliarde from P Lawrenson & Son, Brindle and Holstein Friesian from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet. All steers today averaged £1024.

Heifers sold to a top price of £1250 for British Blue x from MJ Shepherd & Son, Pilling with Aberdeen Angus x to £1220 from J Tattersall, Preston. Well-fleshed heifers were generally selling from £1050 to £1150, all heifers today averaged £897.

A small number of Store Bulls forward sold to £660 for Hereford x from GJT & V Parkinson, Poulton-le-Fylde.

OTM Cattle

The weekly sale of cull/OTM cattle saw 91 forward achieving and overall market average for cull cows of 99p/kg.

Beef cows sold to top of 147p/kg for British Blue x from TE, JS, SA Carruthers, Underbarrow with other heavy well-fleshed cows achieving 125p/kg-140p/kg. Medium beefs cows were generally selling 100p/kg-110p/kg for further feeding depending on quality. Dairy cows achieved a top price of 139p/kg from R Lawson & Son, Burton-in-Kendal with other heavy cows 100p/kg-105p/kg. Medium dairy cows 80p/kg-95p/kg with parlour cows 65p/kg-80p/kg.

Top grossing beef cow was £909 from EJ Ward & Son, Nether Kellet. Dairy sold to £1064 from DJ, A & L Sutcliffe, Preston. OTM Clean topped at £1328 for a Limousin x heifer from JS & KM Wilson & Son, Kendal with cull bulls to £1210 from HR & KR Hodgson, Barbon.

OTM Steers peaked at 164p/kg for a Friesian from EE Thornton & Son, Downlands with Fleckveih to 149p/kg from EW & RM Towers, Hornby. OTM dairy heifers sold to 177p/kg for Norwegian Red x from J & H Bland & Son Lts, Levens with others generally 125p/kg-150p/kg. Several beef bred OTM heifers forward this week selling to 184p/kg for Lim x from JS & KM Wilson & Son, Kendal with Hereford X selling to 169p/kg from P & A Bell, Pilling.

Cull bulls sold to a top price of 159.5p/kg from D & E Whitaker, Quernmore with all cull bulls forward averaging 136p/kg.

Calves and Stirks

An entry of predominantly younger calves today saw a top price of £240 achieved for a Limousin Bull from A & MI Robinson, Orton with others selling to £235 from GCL Stephenson Ltd, Kirkby Lonsdale who also sold British Blue bulls to £225. Heifer calves sold to £200 for Limousin x from GCL Stephenson Ltd and £190 for British Blue x from JM & HM France & Son, Little Dale. Native bred calves saw Aberdeen Angus x bulls achieve £225 from JE & J Pye & Son, Quernmore with Hereford bulls selling to £200 from A & MI Robinson.

Dairy bulls sold to £50 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale with most young calves £25 to £40.

Several weaned calves forward sold to £395 for British Blue x bulls from AW & AM Park & Son, Ellel who also sold Aberdeen Angus bulls to £390.
