Prime Hoggs

The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs at Lancaster had just shy of 300 forward selling to a slightly less market average of 182 p/kg; this being very much in line with other markets today. There was plenty of Continental hoggs selling around the 200p/kg mark. The trade topped at £101 from AG Butler of Hambleton with Texel hoggs with Suffolk’s to £100 from HJ & BE Kelsall of Gressingham. This was closely followed by Charollais hoggs from AB & J Parkinson and Son of Out Rawcliffe selling to £96 with plenty more selling around the £90 mark. Texel hoggs sold to 211p/kg from AG Butler of Hambleton with others to 210p/kg from J & H Davis of Cabus. Hill bred hoggs saw Mules sell to a top of £80 from FK & F Woodhouse of Scorton with Cheviots topping at £79 from T Smith of Pilling with Scotch Blackfaces to £76 from WM Pye of Stodday.

Cast Sheep

There was a handful of cast sheep on offer this morning that sold to a top of £80 for Suffolk tups from TM Townley of Over Wyresdale and Texel ewes topping at £70 from JA Lambert of Out Rawcliffe. Mule ewes topped at £65 from S Wilson and son of Scotforth.
