The February Lancaster sale received another superb entry with numbers growing in the form of vendors and purchasers, the sale is developing and with that and with that a great warm friendly atmosphere which certainly helps to bring the whole sale to life! The sale was consistent from start to finish.
The sale this month received over 50 entries and there certainly was plenty of buzz around the ring to bid on all commodities available, this sale offers vendors to sell their pedigree and commercial stock to a wide range of purchasers, from far and wide looking for good quality stock, today commercial heifers sold to £2100!
Before the sale, the judging got underway and this month the judge Mr Ian Venables of Welshpool had a very tricky job on his hands as each class was brimming with quality and all worthy winners, but he certainly rose to the challenge and did a top job.
The Champion animal for the day was the first prize heifer in the halter led class, Ingleview Deman Dandy from R & E Butterfield of Bentham, this stylish heifer sired by EDG Deman was bred from 7 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent, yielding 36.kg daily she was in high demand in the sale ring and realised at £2500, being secured by Messrs D Davies of Newinn, Camarthen.
The Reserve Champion was taken by the Inman Family with Witherslack Cavle Shezza, this heifer was placed first prize in the non-halter led class and then picked up the Reserve Champion rosette, this heifer was very fresh and already giving 32.kg daily, was snapped up by Wallbank Farms Ltd, of Over Wyresdale for £2250.
The first prize cow of the day was from J Burrow & Son, Stardale Gras Vaakje (GP84) this super cow sired by Mardi Gras was fresh on the 21st January and yielding 41.8kg, she was bred from this great cow family, backed by 6 generations of VG or EX cows she realised at £2350 to D Davies of Camarthen.
The top price heifer of the day was from the great Stardale line up, Stardale line up, Stardale Aftershock Vaakje 5th with a PLI of £368, bred from 6 generations of VG or EX sold for £2650 to D Davies of Camarthen, the following lot also realised at £2300 for Stardale Uno Vaakje 3rd with her three nearest dams being Excellent cows she went on the same lorry to Camarthen.
Stardale Corvette Vaakje 3rd was keenly sought after yielding 35kg daily she was secured by Mr A Bargh of Skelton for £2250.
Drinkall Brothers had their usual quality line up selling to £2250 for Pennine Poppy 1397th, this fresh calved heifer yielding 37.kg was secured by RK & CA Rudd & Sons of Kirkbride, Cumbria, who took home great animals. Also from team Drinkall was another super heifer Pennine Moonbeam 137th she was sold for £2200 to Wallbank Farms Ltd.
Mr D Martin consigned a very sweet heifer Lordsplain Dreamer Sahira, bred from an Excellent Dam she sold for £2150 to Bradleys Farms of Blackpool.
A cracking unregistered heifer from AE & MK Hayhurt of Kendal, yielding 39.kg daily was sold for £2100 to WE Blackley or Tarvin, Cheshire.
