Prime Lambs
There was a larger entry of 720 Prime Lambs forward this week with demand their being plenty of demand for more lambs. It was great to see regular, new and returning customers enjoying a strong trade. There was an overall market average of 200p/kg with over a third of the lambs’ forward being hill bred. Leading the way this week was the consignment from RJ Byron, Wood Plumpton selling heavy-weight Texels to £119, £117, £116 twice, £113 and £108. Texel lambs sold to a top of 247p/kg or £116 from W & A Cornall, Barnacre. This was followed by 238p/kg from Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe with the consignment from RJ Byron selling to 238p/kg, 234p/kg and 231p/kg with other Texel lambs selling to 232p/kg from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Beltex lambs sold to 232p/kg for 41kg lambs from RH & C Ayrton Ltd, Abbeystead purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers, Lancaster. Beltex lambs sold to a top of £108 and £105 from J Smith, Daisy Bank with other Beltex lambs to £105 from AG Butler, Hambleton. 22% of the pens of lambs forward sold in excess of £100. Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £104 from AG Butler with others selling to £98 from EW & JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge. Mule lambs sold to a top of £95 weighing 50kg from T & CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping with 46kg Mules from the same home selling to £94. This was closely followed by £93.50 from W & A Cornall, £93 from JC Hodgson, Dent and £92.50 from David Gardner, Brookhouse.
Horned lambs sold to a top of £80 for Swaledales from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale closely followed by Scottish Blackfaces from WM Pye, Ashton-with-Stodday.

Cast Sheep
There was a reduced entry of cast sheep forward which sold to a strong trade again this week, but not to the dizzy heights of last week. Texel ewes sold to a top of £116 with other Texel ewes to £100 from J Lamb, Old Glasson. Mule ewes topped at £95 from J Lamb with others from Bargh Contractors to £93 and £91. Strong Mules regularly sold around the £90 mark. Upland bred ewes saw Gritstones sell to £70 and Swaledales to £71. A large consignment of tups forward this week saw Leicesters sell to £101 from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead who sold Texels to £99 with other Texel tups selling to £97 from MJ & K Ayrton, Thurnham. Swaledale tups sold to £80 from RH & C Ayrton.
