The opening sale of Store Hoggs had a smaller entry of 835 forward in which plenty more could have been sold to the busy ring of buyers. There was plenty of people ringside looking to purchase hoggs following the increase in trade over the Christmas period with the strong demand for store hoggs looking to continue in to the new year. This led to a very strong trade topping at £89 twice for Texel hoggs from C Head, Kendal with others from the same home selling to £86. The consignment of Texel hoggs from DR & C Galbraith, Grayrigg sold to £87.50, £86 and £85. Suffolk hoggs sold to a peak of £85.50 from RA Gibbons, Grange-over-Sands and £81 from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbeystead. Plenty of pens of strong short keep hoggs sold around the £80 mark.
Hill bred hoggs saw Cheviots sell to a top of £76 from Low Moor Howe, Winster with Mule hoggs from the same home topping at £73.50. Horned hoggs saw a pen of 41 Swaledales sell to £66.50 from S & W Dickinson, Tebay and £66 from Fishwick Bros, Longsleddale. Rough Fells sold to a top of £65 from K Milburn, Sedbergh.
All store hoggs sold to an average of £63.64.
