Store Cattle

The weekly sale of Store Cattle had an increased entry of 259 forward. There was a mixed show of cattle on offer but selling to a similar trade. Topping the trade today was TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe selling a pair of Charolais bullocks to £1240. This was closely followed by a Limousin Bullock from J Lamb, Lancaster selling to £1200. A run of Angus bullocks from E & J Redmayne, Winmarleigh topped the native bred section selling to £1190, with JD & GM Bracken, Catterall, M Shepherd & Son, Pilling, B & J Preston, Caton, DR Preston, Caton and CB Heald & Son, Ingleton all achieving £1160 for Angus bullocks. Also reaching the £1160 mark was G Atkinson & Son, Lancaster with a British Blue bullocks, FA Nowell & Partners with Bazadaise bullocks and JR & LA Wilson, Millom with Limousin bullocks.

The heifer trade was topped at £1090 several times today, firstly from JA & LA Wilsom with Limousins and also by JW Atkinson, Bentham with British Blues. Native bred heifers sold to £1070 for an Angus from A & L Gardner, Quernmore with M Shepherd & Son, T Robson & Son, Singleton selling Angus’ to £1060.

OTM Cattle

There was a slightly reduced entry of 98 cast cows today but all classes selling to a sharp trade with more required for the ever growing attendance of buyers. Topping the trade today in the cast cow ring was an OTM Angus heifer from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale selling to 179.5p/kg, who also sold other Angus and British Blue heifers to 169.5p/kg. Other heifers forward today saw a Limousin from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham sell to 154.5p/kg and a South Devon from Lucas Breeding, Adlington sell to 151.5p/kg.

Cows today topped at 161.5p/kg for a South Devon from Lucas Breeding with today’s top grossing cow being a Simmental from Barlow Bros, Croston selling to £1390. Limousin cows today sold to 149.5p/kg from AG Rawlinson, Killington. Friesian cows topped at 147.5p/kg from J & M Sanderson, Kirkham.

A few Cast Steers this week sold to 159.5p/kg from RH & RA Fawcett, Burton for a Limousin with RJ Cardwell, Esprick selling a Friesian to 154.5p/kg

All cast cows forward today sold to an overall market average of 125p/kg.

Calves and Stirks

There was a smaller entry of calves on offer today. The calf trade was topped at £305 for a British Blue heifer from RE & P Miller, Garstang with AD & R Milner, Claughton on Brock selling an Angus bull to the same price. Other British Blue bull calves achieved £300 from J & M Sanderson, Kirkham, £295 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe and £290 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. Hereford Bull calves sold to £260 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Limousin heifers this week sold to £210 from B & MJ Nelson & Son, Milnthorpe.

Friesian calves today sold to £130 from D & K Haworth, Hambleton.
