INAUGURAL HASSALL BROTHERS & NORTH WEST AUCTIONS LANCATER DAIRY SALES KICKS OFF WITH A BANG WITH A £3,000 TOP PRICE!
Tuesday 20th March witnessed the first sale for the joint venture between Hassall Brothers and North West Auctions conducting dairy sales at Lancaster Auction Mart, a sale that both companies are incredibly excited about and look forward to building a very strong alliance over the forthcoming years.
The sale is open to any category of dairy stock, milking cows and heifers of any breed, youngstock, pedigree and commercial.
The March sale attracted an entry of 44 head which was pleasing for this first sale, the atmosphere at the auction was bubbling with excitement and certainly the quality of stock on offer was outstanding and all vendors must be congratulated on the super animals they entered. We really appreciate the support from everyone for making this sale so successful, achieving a top price of £3,000 and a further 5 animals achieving over £2,000.
The Show was judged by Will Glenn of Distinctive Holsteins, Cheshire, with the show kindly sponsored by Wynnstay, in Association with Elanco & Zoetis; Will had a really tough job as the animals put forward were tremendous and difficult to split.
The Champion animal was from the Inman Family of Strickland Hill Farming, Grange-Over-Sands this was the 1st prize cow, Witherslack Bookmark Roxy, this awesome cow bred from the well-respected Roxy family backed by 10 generations of VG or EX, calved on the 1st March, yielding 46kg daily, she was secured by Messrs S Robinson of County Down, Northern Ireland. The Inman family will be delighted that they sold their Champion cow commission free, as all champion animals will sell commission free every month!
Reserve Champion was taken by FG & MR Martin of Levens, Kendal. This heifer won the non-halter led class, Lordsplain Masterful Electra calved on the 12th February. She was yielding 38kg and was secured for £2,000 by Bradleys Farms Ltd of Preston.
A lovely heifer from R & E Butterfield of Bentham took 1st prize heifer in the halter led class; This super heifer, Ingleview Dempsey Ivory, bred from this great line of cows bred from 7 generations of Very Good or Excellent, she calved on the 5th March and was secured by Bradley Farms for £2,000.
The Tomlinson family of Preston consigned six great heifers from their Bilsrow herd, trade topped at £2,450 for Bilsrow Goodwhone Lausine, this great heifer bred from 9 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent from the noted Lausine family and she was secured by Messrs Oldfield.
Two other great heifers from this home sold for £2,000 to average £1,950 for all lots sold.
Lots of other great heifers were keenly sought after by an active ring of buyers, once again milk, and dairy strength being in high demand throughout the day.
