Prime Hoggs
The Prime Hogg trade improved as the week went on last week, with the market average today being 224p/kg. Hoggs weighing between 39 and 45kg averaged 228p/kg.
Top price today saw Texel Hoggs sell to £120 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe closely followed by £119 from O Butler, Kirkham. Suffolks twice sold to £117 firstly from J Bargh & Son and AG Butler, Hambleton. Plenty of pens of Hoggs sold over the £110 mark. Top price per kilo was 256p/kg for 45kg Texel’ from AG Butler, this was followed by 249p/kg for 43kg Texel’ from RW & FJ Rhodes, Quernmore.
Mule Hoggs sold to a top of £108 from J Bargh & Son with 44kg Mules selling to £102 from AG Butler.
Cast Sheep
There was a larger entry of Cast Sheep forward today selling to a buoyant trade, where more could have easily been sold.
A consignment from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth saw Suffolk Ewes sell to £133 and Texel’ sell to £121. This was closely followed by Texel’ selling to £111 from JA & V Lamb, Conder Green.
Best Mule Ewes regularly in the nineties selling to a top of £103 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth.
Horned Ewes sold to a top of £74 for Dalesbred Ewes from DM Eames, Abbeystead.
Prime Beef
There was a Prime Bull forward this morning from P & A Bell, Pilling selling to 195p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus.
Ewes with Lambs at Foot
The sale of Sheep with Lambs at Foot of the season at Lancaster saw a blistering trade throughout in which more could have easily been sold.
Continental Ewes with single lambs sold to £160 or £80p/life. Continental Ewes with Twins sold to a top of £205. All sheep forward sold to a market average of £70.80p/life. Entries to date for next week include 10 Mule Ewes with Texel Lambs & 10 Continental Ewes with Continental Lambs.
