Store Cattle
The weekly sale of Store Cattle saw a smaller entry forward due to some vendors not being able to make it following the bad weather. The ring still saw majority of buyers who braved the conditions ensuring a strong trade was enjoyed throughout the sale where more could have easily been sold.
Today’s trade topped at £1250 for a pen of Aberdeen Angus Bullocks from TC Whiteside & Son of Pilling. Heifers sold to £1220 for British Blues from EW & A Bradshaw of Stalmine.
There was plenty of trade for 18-20 month old Continental & Native Bullocks and Heifers.
The next sale of Store cattle at Lancaster will take place on Friday 9th March 2018, Entries to the Office by 2pm Monday
OTM Cattle
Likewise with the OTM Cattle, there was a reduced entry in the market. The majority of buyers were present which saw the trade continuing to be very strong at Lancaster. An overall market average of 124p/kg was achieved.
Limousin Cast Cows sold to a top of 154.5p/kg from JE & AC Clarke & Son of Melling with Simmental Cows from the same good home selling to £1158 with plenty of good beef cows selling in excess of £1100.
Black and White Cows topped at 139.5p/kg from JB & JB Lawson of Cockerham with Black and White cows grossing at £1136 from JT & B Fox of Quernmore. Cast Bulls sold to £1203 for Herefords from JC & E Mason of Levens.
Calves and Stirks
There were only half a dozen calves forward for the sale but those that braved the weather were rewarded with a strong trade.
Topping today’s trade was a British Blue Bull selling to £320 from Wallbank Farms of Over Wyresdale with Aberdeen Angus Bull Calves selling to £250. British Blue Heifer calves topped at £250 from RJ & KR Wilkinson of Levens.
