Store Cattle and Cast Cows
There was a smaller entry of cast cows and store cattle with vendors and buyers missing due to the weather conditions making travelling hard work. There was a market average of 112p/kg, best meated cows easily selling over 120p/kg.
The bad weather certainly put off store cattle vendors with a very small entry forward. The trade topped at £780 for 9-month-old Limousin bulls from RI Dixon of Low Newton.
There will be a large entry of store cattle to include the over wintered suckler show and sale on Thursday 22nd March 2018.
Calves
A reduced number of calves forward, saw an entire entry of dairy bred bulls. Today’s top price of £70 being achieved by W Garnett & Son of Milnthorpe with Friesians, with Flekviehs to the same price from R & J Dodgson of Natland.
Store Hoggs
The weather conditions may be cold but the trade was certainly hot, plenty of interest in a smaller entry this week with numbers of store hoggs now beginning to dry up. Best short keep fleshed hoggs sold easily into the seventies, topping at £79 for Suffolks from PW Clarke of Crosthwaite, with texels to £77 from B Clark of Grange over Sands. Mule topped at £73 and £70 from PW Clarke of Crosthwaite. Medium keep hoggs sold around the fifty-pound mark with longer keep hoggs selling to realisation depending on the size and quality.
