Lancaster Livestock Auction: Store Cattle Friday 27th July

Store Cattle

There was a larger entry of store cattle in the market with an entry of over 300. The trade was topped at £1400 for Limouisn steers from J Hartley and Sons of Westhouse. This was closely followed by JA & LR Wilson of Millom selling Limousins to £1370 and Simmentals to £1340. Native cattle always good to sell at Lancaster selling to £1340 from R Collinge and Son of Kirkham. The heifer trade was topped at £1260 for Angus heifers from SJ Brass of Ingleton. Black and white steers sold to a top of £1040 from D & K Swarbrick of Out Rawcliffe.

OTM Cattle

A smaller entry of cast cows in the market this week sold to a sharper trade. There was an overall market average of 113p/kg. The trade topped at 194.5p/kg from Ballacutchel Farms of the Isle of Man with a young Limousin cow. Good meated cows continue to sell in excess of 120p/kg .

Calves and Stirks

The monthly sale of stirks had a smaller entry then expected with a few missing due to the traffic. There wasn’t as many buyers ringside as seen at previous sales for this popular sale with many missing because of the shortage of grass at the moment. The trade saw Limousin steers sell to a top of £640 and £635 from T Ayrton and Son of Over Wyresdale. Heifers where topped by Angus heifers from RH & D Parker of Clitheroe selling to £540. Bulls topped at £470 for British blues from S Moore of Pilling. Black and white bulls sold to a top of £465.

There was a smaller entry of calves with it being the stirk sale this week with more expected next week. British blue bulls sold to a top of £315 from TE & M Kidd of Quernmore.
