Spring Lambs

A smaller entry of prime lambs forward in Lancaster this morning in which more could have been sold as many buyers left short of numbers. There were 510 lambs in the market averaging 182p/kg. Best conformation Texel and Beltex lambs sold in excess of 200p/kg, selling to a top of 220p/kg or £99 from T & CM Kelsall of Chipping for Texel lambs. Other Texel lambs sold to 214p/kg from JK & BE Townley of Brookhouse and 210p/kg from Bargh Contractors of Heaton with Oxcliffe. Texel lambs sold to a top of £109 from Bargh Contractors, with others to £104 from H Birkett and Son of Overton. There was a larger selection of Mules on the market today, topping at £77 from M & L Preece of Kirkby Lonsdale. More lambs are required weekly at Lancaster.

Cast Sheep

There was in the region of 100 cast sheep forward at Lancaster this week selling to another strong trade and in keeping with other centres. The trade was topped by Bargh Contractors of Heaton with Oxcliffe selling Texel ewes to £97 and £91 with others selling into mid-eighties. Mule ewes sold to a top of £77 from DJ Casson and Son of Slyne.
