Prime Hoggs

There was a smaller entry of Prime Hoggs in the market today, selling to a sharper trade than last week, finishing with an overall market average of 211p/kg. Hoggs weighing 39kg-50kg averaged 219p/kg.

Best Hoggs sold to a top of 250p/kg for Texels from AG Butler of Hambleton, closely followed by Texels at 247p/kg from A Birchall of Dolphinholme. Plenty of pens of Texel Hoggs sold either side of 230p/kg mark.

Topping the market today at £114 was 51kg Texel Hoggs from RS & IM Kellet of Cockerham. Benson Farms sold 45kg Texels to £110 with their whole consignment averaging well over the £100 mark. Numerous pens of Prime Hoggs sold in excess of £100.

Mule Hoggs sold to a top of £98 from RH & C Ayrton of Abbeystead. There was a larger quantity of Horned Hoggs on the market today with Swaledales selling to £96 from KM & KJ Curwen of Abbeystead and Lonks selling to £94.50 from Cardwell Farms of Stalmine.

Cast Sheep

A few more Cast Sheep on the market today, were met with plenty of trade selling to a top of £105 for Texel Ewes from JW & SE Drinkwater of Quernmore. Bluefaced Leicester Ewes from the same home sold to £87. Plenty of Texel Ewes sold in the eighties.

Mule Ewes sold to a top of £76 from M & L Preece of Kirkby Lonsdale.

Prime Cattle

An Aberdeen Angus Prime Bull from P & A Bell of Pilling sold to 184.5p/kg or £939.
