Store Cattle

A sharper trade for all types of store cattle today, with a bumper entry of 361 forward for sale this week. Mid-range keep types of cattle being more keenly sought after. There was once again plenty of big short keep bullocks selling in excess of £1300, topping at £1370 for British Blue bullocks from WA & LM Jenkinson of Stalmine. Angus bullocks sold to a top of £1320 from L Parsons and Sons of Low Levens. The heifer trade topped at £1,240 for a couple of Angus heifers from JD & GMM Bracken of Catterall. There was over 10% of the cattle in the market selling in excess of £1,200, with all bullocks today averaging over £1,000.

OTM Cattle

There was 100 cast cows forward once again this week, selling to another strong trade, more are needed to take advantage of the current trade. Leaner and plainer cows were noticeably sharper today. An overall market average of 128p/kg was achieved.

Calves and Stirks

A smaller entry of calves today which was disappointing, many more could have been sold. A strong trade was enjoyed today especially for good strong beef calves. Trade topped at £455 for British blue bulls from G & ME Woodhouse and Son of Ellel, who also sold others to £440. British blue heifers topped at £360 from David and Eileen Wallbank of Over Wyresdale. Native calves topped at £300 for Angus heifers from JT & B Fox of Quernmore. Black and whites sold to £230 from R & V Walmsley of Cockerham.
