Prime Hoggs

A similar number of prime hoggs forward this week with there being a jump in trade this week with a market average of 208p/kg with 39-45kg hoggs averaging 213p/kg.

The trade topped twice at £114 firstly for 55kg Suffolks from George Riley of Bolton-le-Sands and then 51kg Texels from R & B Parker of Killington. Texels topped at 239p/kg for 46kg from MJ & K Ayrton of Thurnham selling to £110. Beltex hoggs topped at 237p/kg for a pen of five from KA Purtill of Wigan.

Mules sold to a top of £93 from AG Butler of Hambleton. Swaeldales selling to a top of £90 from M & L Preece of Kirkby Lonsdale or to 206p/kg from JS & S Atkinson of Scorton.

Cast Sheep

There was a larger entry of cast sheep in the market today which was met by plenty of trade with all keenly sought after. The trade topped at £95 for Suffolk tups from DC Miller of Claughton on Brock. Texel ewes sold to PW & DW Roskell of Pilling. Plenty more ewes could have easily been sold to the advantage of vendors.
