Prime Hoggs
There was a larger entry just short of 500 Prime Hoggs forward today selling to a sharper trade than the previous week. The overall market average was 194p/kg, two pence up on last week. 39kg to 45kg Hoggs sold to an average of 196p/kg.
Beltex Hoggs from KA Purtill of Wigan sold to 214p/kg with numerous pens of Continental and Suffolk Hoggs selling in excess of the 200p/kg.
Heavy weight Suffolk Hoggs sold to £107 from David & Karen Swarbrick of Out Rawcliffe which was closely followed by RW & FJ Rhodes of Quernmore with Texel Hoggs selling to £105, Mules from the same good home sold to a top of £97. Plenty of pens of Texel Hoggs sold over the £100 mark. Suffolks sold to a top of £95 weighing 48kg from J Bargh & Son of Heaton with Oxcliffe. Standard weight Mule Hoggs sold to a top of £90 from T & CM Kelsall & Sons of Chipping.
A larger number of horned Hoggs on the market today saw Lonks weighing 42kg selling to £83 from Cardwell Farms of Stalmine, 44kg Swaledale Hoggs sold to £80 from JS & S Atkinson of Scorton. Scotch Blackface Hoggs from WM Pye of Ashton with Stodday selling to £79 or 203p/kg.
Cast Sheep
A small entry of Cast Sheep forward in the market today saw Texel Cast Ewes sell to £80 from MJ & K Ayrton of Thurnham.
