Store Cattle
There was a more mixed entry of store cattle forward for the sale this week at Lancaster. The trade today topped at £1,420 from PM & ST Entwistle of Lentworth Farm with Limousin bullocks, closely followed by DE & SM Moorhouse of High House Farm selling Limousin bullocks to £1,390 and £1,370. Native bred cattle are always in demand at Lancaster with Angus bullocks selling to £1,290 from L Parsons and Sons of Low Levens. The heifer trade was topped by TN Pye and Partners, Langthwaite Heights selling a pen of three Charolais heifers to £1,250. Black and white bullocks sold to a top of £1,110 from L Parsons and Sons of Low Levens.

OTM Cattle
The cast cow and over thirty month cattle trade continues to be very strong with vendors strongly advised to take advantage of the trade and cash in unwanted cattle. There was a leaner and poorer show of cast cows today, but still selling to an overall market average of 124p/kg with dairy cows averaging 114p/kg. Young Fleckvieh cows sold to a top of 189.5p/kg from J & H Bland Ltd of Ninezergh. British Blue cows sold to 184.5p/kg from ST Birkett and Son of Hall Croft, with young Swedish Red cows selling to the same price from CJ & MH Parry of Hillam Lane. British Blue cows sold to a top of £1,231 from JE & AC Clarke & Son of Cringleber with dairy cows selling to £1,150 from J Bargh and Son of North Farm.
Calves and Stirks
There was a larger entry of calves forward with over fifty in the market. Good quality beef calves a strong trade and easily sound with smaller beef heifers harder to place. Best beef bulls were selling in excess of £400 topping at £410 and £405 for a cracking consignments of Angus bulls from J & M Sanderson of Pasture Barn. British Blue bulls sold to £405 from T & CM Kelsall of Brown Brook. Weaned British Blue heifers sold to a top of £430 from SM & CM Bewley of Scotchergill. There was plenty of good beef bull calves selling in the three hundreds. Charolais heifers topped at £280 from EA & E Lund of Pump House Farm with British Blue heifers selling to £250 from J Hoggarth & Sons of Belmont Farm. Black and whites sold to a top of £105 from JH Towers & Sons of Tunstall Hall.
