Store Lambs
There was a bumper entry of over 1,100 Store Hoggs forward today. As to be expected late in the season, there was a mixed entry forward, but with a good number of buyer’s ringside all were well bid for. Best well-fleshed hoggs sold higher than expectations with many selling in excess of £70. The sale topped twice at £75 for Beltex hoggs from MA & JA Winn of High Underbrow, and for Texels from BJ Bowness of Blea Tarn Road. Other Texel hoggs sold to £73, several times, from GT Hodgson of High Low Wood, PD Anderton of Wyre Farm and LA&M Lambert of Brow Head.
Hill bred hoggs sold to £65 for Cheviots from LA&M Lambert and for Mules to £64.50 from WM&JE Shuttleworth of Barbon Fell House. Horned Hoggs sold to £52 for Swaledales from BJ Bowness of Blea Tarn Road.
A large entry forward of smaller long-term keep hoggs were harder to place, meaning that the overall average of £46.06 was achieved for all lots forward, which was very respectful.
The next sale to be held at Junction 36 will be on Thursday 15th February, please can entries be advised to the office by Wednesday 7th February, to enable us to advise buyers of numbers forward.
