Prime Lambs

The weekly sale of Prime Lambs had a smaller entry this week, following on from the Christmas show last week. The trade remains firm at Lancaster with an overall market average of 174p/kg and an SQQ average of 177p/kg. Lambs sold to a top of £89 for Texels from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with other Texels to £88 from H Birkett & Son, Overton. Texel lambs sold to a top of 202p/kg from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbeystead, with plenty of good conformation lambs selling around the 195p/kg mark.

There was more hill bred lambs on the market today that saw Cheviots sell to £80 from P Prickett, Hutton Roof and £79 from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead. Mule lambs sold to a top of £76 four times from M Huddleston, Wray, FK & F Woodhosue, Scorton, A & J Rhodes, Ellel and M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale.

More lambs are required each week at Lancaster to satisfy buyers requirements

Cast Sheep

There was a similar number of Cast ewes forward today selling to a continued trade which saw Texel ewes top at £70 from CJ Metcalfe, Ingleton, Mules to £57 from CF Hargreaves, Overton with others to £56 from CJ Metcalfe.
