Spring Lambs
There was a slightly increased entry of prime lambs in the market today selling to another strong trade at Lancaster. There was an overall market average of 178p/kg. It was great to have fresh and returning customers in the ring and enjoying a good trade at Lancaster. The trade topped at £100 or 204p/kg for Texel lambs from GR & RA Surtees of Stodday with lambs from the same good home selling to £96. Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £95 from B & J Preston of Caton. Heavy weight Texel lambs sold to £94, £93 and £91 from JH & BA Gornall of Longridge. Well fleshed lambs in excess of 40kg best to sell today with vendors strongly advised to have lambs well finished.
Cast Sheep
An entry of in the region of 100 cast sheep forward sold to another strong trade at Lancaster. The trade was topped by GR &A Surtees of Stodday selling Suffolk ewes to £110 and Texel ewes to £103. This was followed by James Burr of Quernmore selling Texel ewes to £100 with plenty of heavy weight ewes selling in the nineties. Best mule ewes sold in excess of £80, topping at £83 from JE & J Pye of Quernmore and £81 from WM Pye of Stodday. Goats sold to a top of £48 from SE Peacock of Cockerham.
Prime Beef
