Store Cattle
The weekly sale of Store Cattle saw another catalogued entry of over 300. There was a very mixed show of Cattle in the market which saw all specifications of cattle sell to good trade to a full ringside of buyers. There was once again plenty of Bullocks selling in excess of £1300.
Trade topped at £1440 for a pair of Limousin Bullocks from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland. This was followed by £1350 for a pair of Charolais Bullocks from J Bargh, Heaton with Oxcliffe.
As usual there was plenty of trade for Native Bred Cattle at Lancaster topping at £1340 from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with others selling to £1300.
Heifers sold to £1220 for Aberdeen Angus Heifers from ID Bailey & Son, Catforth.
Black and White Bullocks topped at £1080 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe.
Cast Cows
The weekly sale of Cast Cows saw a reduced entry of 91 forward selling to a sharp trade throughout. Overall an average of 130p/kg was achieved.
Cast Cows sold to 189.5p/kg for a Aberdeen Angus from O Butler, Esprick. There were plenty of Beef cows forward selling over the 170p/kg mark. Topping the market per head was £1340 for a OTM British Blue Heifer from J & O Galbraith & Son, Endmoor. Beef Cows sold to a top of £1245 for Simmentals from GR Bargh & Co, Caton with British Blues selling to £1219 from A & P Hodgkinson, Stalmine.
Black and White Cows sold to £1216 from AW & AM Park & Sons, Ellel with plenty of best Black and White cows easily selling either side of the £1100 mark.
Calves & Stirks
The monthly Sale of Stirks saw a record price broken for a yearling British Blue Bullock selling to £880 from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green
The trade saw plenty of Yearling Dairy Bred Beef Bullocks topping at £715 for Aberdeen Angus from M & E Forshaw, Longridge closely followed by Herefords to £710 from MJ & LC Lund, Quernmore.
Yearling Heifers sold to £660 twice for British Blues from G & ME Woodhouse, Ellel.
There was a strong trade for fit Stirks between 4-6months old.
British Friesian Bulls sold to a top of £400 from C Stackhouse, Kirkham. There was plenty of people ringside ensured a strong trade throughout.
The weekly sale of Calves saw an entry of 50 forward which sold a stronger trade this week with many fresh and returning customers ringside some of these leaving empty handed.
Weanling calves sold to £400 for Aberdeen Angus Bulls from J & M Sanderson, Kirkham. Aberdeen Angus Bull Calves sold to £385 from JM & MH France & Son, Littledale. There was plenty of Beef Bull Calves easily selling in the early to mid three hundreds. Heifer Calves saw British Blues top at £350 from AW & AM Park & Sons, Ellel. Aberdeen Angus Heifer Calves sold to £285 from J Bargh, Bentham.
Weaned Black and White Bull Calves topped at £205 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale with younger bull calves selling to £90 from WN & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham
