Lancaster Livestock Auction: Show & Sale of Dairy Cattle

CONSISTENT TRADE AT LANCASTER APRIL’S SALE

The April Sale was a limited in numbers due to the time of year but what a tremendous consistency to the day's trade at Hassall Brothers and North West Auctions monthly dairy sale at Lancaster Auction Mart. Once again, the vendors must be congratulated on the quality animals on offer; there was certainly a great atmosphere around the ring which contributed to the positive outcome of the sale.

Topping at £2,250 twice during the sale a further seven animals sold for over £2000. The show was kindly judged by Ian Scarisbrick, of Staffordshire. For his Champion he selected Lot 17 Pennine Poppy 1346th from regular vendors Drinkall Brothers of Over Wyresdale, she sold to Mr J V Allan of Tutbury, Staffordshire for £2,250.

The Reserve Champion from M J & H Atkinson of Quernmore, Lancashire a super young cow, which was awarded first place cow, Wyredale Goodwhone Ida 96th (Lot 23) yielding 42kg daily she was purchased by John Allan for £2,200.

Sharing the top price of the day was a super cow from T Riley of Heath Charnock, Halloverhill Spring Gipsy (Lot 32) bred from 5 generations of VG or Ex, she was scored (VG85-2yr), this great second calved cow was yielding 43kg daily and was the second prized cow in the show, she joined the tremendous lorry load which John Allan put together to travel south on the motorway.

Unregistered Heifers sold to £2,180 for T Riley, a balanced heifer yielding 29kg daily and she was awarded the 2nd prized ribbon in the non-halter led class, she sold to Messrs BF Blezard Ltd of Preston.
The Tomlinson family from Bilsborrow consigned a great run of animals selling to £2,000 twice, first for a second calved cow Bilsrow Irresistable Christina (Lot 6) yielding 43.kg and a sweet heifer Bilsrow Jacob Shower yielding 29kg daily, they were both secured by Messrs J V Allan of Tutbury, who also took home with him Berryholme Windbrook Flo 4 for £2,000, bred from 5 generations of Excellent cows, with the third dam being the great Holmland Storm Flo (Ex94-5yr LP110 29 stars.

Averages; Fresh Calved Cows £1768.57, Fresh Calved Heifers £1784.71.
