Store Cattle
Great to have well over 300 cattle entered again this week selling to a continued strong trade where more could have easily been sold to a busy ringside of buyers. All types of cattle were a good trade for the mixed entry forward in terms of quality including yearling cattle, as buyers now look for grazing cattle. Topping the trade this week was British Blue steers from JD Helme of Pilling selling to £1,470 with Limousin bullocks to £1,390 and Simmentals to £1,300 all from the same home. Also achieving £1300 or more was Limousin bullocks from AT Burrow & Son of Hornby selling to £1320 and British Blues £1300 from CG Birkett of Carnforth. Angus bullocks topped at £1260, twice, from Barlow Bros of Croston and JA & LR Wilson of Millom. Angus heifers sold to £1140 from JD & GM Bracken of Garstang.

OTM Cattle
There was another entry of over 100 Cast cows and OTMs forward today meeting plenty of demand from purchasers selling to a continued strong trade. There was an overall market average of 128p/kg achieved. Beef OTM heifers topped at 179.5p/kg for a Blonde from SA Hill of Slyne with black and white heifers selling to 167.5p/kg from AT Burrow and Son of Hornby or £1,130 from J & M Maudsley and Son of Kendal. Cows topped at 159.5p/kg for Montbeliardes from WR & CM Lawrenson of Winmarleigh with best black and whites cows selling in the 140p/kg mark. 20% of the cast cows and OTM cattle today sold in excess of the £1000 per head mark topping at £1,327 for Holstein Friesian bulls from GB & EA Metcalfe and Son of Kirkby Lonsdale weighing 1154kg. Angus cows topped at £1,290 from JE & AC Clarke and Son of Melling. Black and white cows sold to a top of £1,192 from R & V Walmsley of Cockerham.
Calves and Stirks
A larger entry of calves, again, this week with 68 selling to another strong trade with all types in strong demand and eagerly bid for, more could have been sold to the advantage of the vendor. British Blue bulls sold to a top of £390 from AW & AM Park and Sons of Ellel with heifers selling to £370 from Wallbanks Farms of Over Wyresdale. Angus bull calves topped at £360 from Wallbanks Farms closely followed by £355, twice, from Cornthwaite Moors of Hambleton. Plenty of strong beef calves easily passing the £300 mark with one-month-old Hereford bulls selling to £305 from Barker Farms of Carnforth. Best black and white calves were in short supply and more could have been sold, selling to £210 from Wallbanks Farms and consignment of Black and whites averaged £181 with plenty selling over £100.
A few weanling stirks on offer today saw Black and Whites sell to £295 and £270 from TE & M Kidd of Quernmore. Angus weanlings sold to £395 from PS & H Eckersley of Mellor.
