Monday 20th November
The monthly sale of dairy had a catalogue entry of 38. The pre-sale show was judged by Mr B Risdale of Penrith who we thank for his time and expertise coming to judge the show. Following some very strong trade at Lancaster, this sale was slightly easier, although there was plenty of buyers in attendance, people were ever so slightly cautious of forage and the uncertainty about milk price in the future.
The pre-sale champion lot 34, Witherslack Montreal Vall, giving 31kg forward only freshly calved from the Inman Family of Strickland Hill, which topped the trade selling to £2,100 going home with the judge. The reserve champion from AB & J Parkinson of Liscoe Bank with lot 7, Liscabank Melwood Lulu, sold for £1,800.
A large consignment of heifers from Drinkall Bros of Catshaw Hall Farm created plenty of interest and won best pair of heifers, their consignment top at £2020 for lot 30, Pennine Dorothy 486.
Just one cow in the sale today, Kirkwood Kestrel Signet 2, consigned by H & SD Cornthwaite and Son of Kirkwood Lodge Farm met plenty of interest yielding 40 litres selling to £1,750 with plenty of interest in Lancaster for milky, lasting cows and more cows could have been sold.
All in milk heifers forward sold to an average of £1,540.
