J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Cattle, Thursday 14th September 2023

STORE CATTLE

The store cattle trade is improving week on week, seeing all buyers fighting for replacement stock. British Blue bullocks sold to £1660 from P Iverson, Orton. Limousin bullocks sold to £1650 from SW&A Hoggarth, Seathwaite with others from the same good home selling to £1565. A pair of British Blue bullocks sold to £1560 from P Iverson, Orton. Native cattle attracted plenty of interest once again with Aberdeen Angus bullocks selling to £1550 form G Cuthbertson, Old Hutton. Yearling Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to £1190 from RR & M Bamber, Gatesbeck.
Heifers saw yearling Limousins sell to £1140 from JA Twigge, Lindale with Aberdeen Angus’s to £1080 from TD ME & GE Todd, Sedbergh. Frisians bullocks sold to £1100 from JE Wightman, Lupton.
The next sale of store cattle is on Thursday 28th September which includes a special show for continental cattle.

CALVES & WEANLINGS

A small entry of calves and weanlings with the Westmorland County Show, weanlings saw a top of £590 for a Limousin heifer from E Lawson, Howgill with a ring full of Friesian bulls selling to £500 from Messrs Halpin, Barrow in Furness. Weaned Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to £495 from Messrs Young, Lindale. A very young show of calves were forward, with three week old Aberdeen Angus heifers from Colby Farms, Appleby selling to £155 with others from the same home selling to £145. Montbeliarde bulls sold to £110 from Colby Farms. Next fortnight we will be back to the usual numbers, with a full ringside of buyers all keen to purchase.

OTM / CAST CATTLE

OTM’s seemed a little bit sharper on the fortnight, Aberdeen Angus cows sold to £1544 from BJ Bowness, Kendal who sold Limousin cows to £1443. Many other better end beef bred cows sold between £1200 and £1300. Top price per kilo was £2 for a Charolais from J Twigge, Lindale with LM Staveley, Kirkby Stephen also achieving the same price was a British Blue.
