PIGS
A keen buyer interest in in prime pigs, saw a top price of £220 per head and 259p/kg achieved for Large White x gilts from J Ludbrook, Bingley with others selling at £188 from W Stamper, Pilling and £145 from H Kent, Cockerham. Well finished prime pigs were in keenest demand, with more required each sale to satisfy buyer requirements.
A large entry of cull sows and boars sold to £100 from W Stamper, Chipping with others generally £80 to £95 for sows and boars £55 to £80.
Weaners sold to £40 for gilts, with other ranging from 15 to 30 depending on breed and quality.

Away from the show they were 1500 lambs forward, with a slightly varied trade as buyers were cautious to under finished lambs, with meat and weight adding up to a premium. The sale topped at £158 twice for Texels from E Dodgson, Kendal and T Wilson, Selside. Full rings of Texels sold to £150 from RF Morphet, Halton with Beltexs selling to £144 from JM&NJ Strickland, Whinfell. Heavy lambs were regularly selling at £135 to £140 with meated 42kg to 45kg lambs selling at £108 to £115. Cheviots Mules sold to a top of £129 from Low Moor Howe, Winster with Cheviots selling to £122 from S&B Capstick, Old Hutton. Mules sold to £120 from TMW&H Hodgson, Ulverston with Mashams to £117 from JA Bennett, Longsleddale. Texel lambs sold to 298p/kg form KA Purtill, Wigan with others selling to 292p/kg from JM&NJ Strickland, Whinfell.
CAST SHEEP
650 cull ewes were forward selling to a top price of £189 for a pen of five Texel ewes from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston who sold others at £184, £174 and £166. Other strong pure ewes sold to £166 for Texels from T Wilson, Selside with Suffolks to £138 from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston, other heavy ewes were £110 to £130. Mules sold to a top of £102 from DM Bargh, Morecambe with Cheviot Mules to £100 from E&A Thompson, New Hutton. The stronger end of Mules were £85 to £95, with a large number of mediums £72 to £86, depending on size and quality. Pure hill ewes sold to £116 for Cheviots from AJ Cardwelll, St Michaels on Wyre who sold others at £97. TJ Winder, Tebay also sold Cheviots to £96. Rough Fells sold to £77 from I Carradice, Tebay with Herdwicks to £58 from Messrs Hodgson, Rydal and Swaledales to £52 from JR Robinson & Son, Nook. Well worn hill ewes made up a large proportion of todays sale, with the stronger end £38 to £45, mediums £28 to £35 and the smallest and leanest at realisation.
Goats sold to £102 from CM Crayston, Seascale.
Cull rams sold to £150 for a BFL from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth with others selling to £112 from JR Robinson & Son, Nook. Hill bred rams sold to £82 with others at £78.
