PRIME LAMBS
North West Auctions were proud to hold the annual young handlers show, with a great turn out of seventies of eager shepherd and shepherdess’s. We would like to take this time to thank the young handlers for their hard work this morning. We would also like to thank our judge Mr ken Kelsall and our sponsors Myerscough College. Ken awarded the prizes as follows:
CLASS 1: LOWLAND PRIME LAMB

CLASS 3: BEST YOUNG HANDLER

Away from the show there was 730 lambs forward, with all selling to their full value and an SQQ of 255p/kg achieved. The sale peaked at £153 for Suffolk lambs from TA Blair, Blackpool with Beltexs selling to £148 from GR&A Foy, Conder Green. Many of the best lambs were selling at £135 to £140 per head. A better show of lambs were forward, with numerous pens selling over 300p/kg. Beltexs sold to 330p/kg from GR&A Foy, Conder Green and Texels to 310p/kg from J Gardner, Bay Horse. A sharp trade was seen for Continental bred export type lambs, with these regularly 265p/kg to 275p/kg. More hill lambs were on offer, with Mules selling to £125 from S&J France, Over Wyresadale and Masham selling to the same price form T&D Wright, Roeburndale. Dalesbred saw a ring full sell to £109 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton.
More lambs are required on a weekly basis to fulfil buyer demand.
CAST SHEEP
150 ewes were forward with all selling to a sharper trade. More of the best ewes forward, with Texels selling to £175 from G&D Ball & Son, Little Eccleston who sold others to £158. Beltexs sold to same price from GR&A Foy, Conder Green. Heavy Continental bred ewes were regularly £110 to £120, with Mules to a top of £108 from A Thornton, Woodplumpton and a ring full to £99 from B&J Preston, Caton. Hill ewes saw Swaledales sell to £62 from T Longton & Son, Quernmore with other pens to £57 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale.
