J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Store Lambs, Thursday 16th November 2023

The catalogue entry of over 5000 store lambs continues to attract new and returning customers from far and wide, with todays sale comprising off smaller, long keep lambs showing the affect of the recent weather change. The strongest well bred lambs continue to meet keen demand, selling to a top price of £120 for Texel cross lambs from JM&NJ Stickland, Whinfell with others at £116 from MJ&RE Smith, Cartmel Fell and £114 from GN Robinson, Kirkby Stephen. Other level well grown pens of stronger lambs were £92 to £99, with mediums £84 to £90 and the longest keep £68 to £70. Mules sold to a top of £102 from JA Law, Carnforth with other pens of stronger Mules selling to £92 from GA Guy, Tebay and G&ID Postlethwaite, Howgill. Other pens were £85 to £91, mediums £78 to £74 and longer keeps £65 to £72. Pure hill bred lambs sold to £87.50 for Cheviots form I&J Mallinson, Selside with a ring full achieving £86 from SJ Middleton, Dent. Swaledales sold to £84 from Messrs Hodgson, Windermere with Herdwick selling to £77 from IK&AM Grisdale, Crooklands. Scotch Black Face sold to £70 from G&ID Postlethwaite, Howgill. Rough Fells sold to £65 from I&J Mallinson, Selside with others at £62 from M&G German, Middleton. Smaller pure hill lambs were generally £38 to £43, depending on breed and quality.
The next sale of store lambs is on Thursday 30th November, with catalogue entries required by Wednesday 22nd November.
