Sheep With Lambs at Foot

A smaller entry of sheep with lambs at foot forward today as many are promised for next week as many giving there lambs the opportunity to get some additional strength. Quality of the lambs continue to sell the outfits. The weekly consignment from J & R Waller, Killington of aged continental ewes with Texel and Suffolk lambs sold to £280, £252 and £250. Young Texel sheep with young Texel lambs sold to £270 from NJ Strickland & Son, Whinfell. Mule shearlings with young Charollais lambs sold to £218 from Oston and Mason, Bolton le Sands.

Spring Lambs

A small entry of spring lambs forward today saw handy weighted lambs eagerly bid for and average in excess of the 300p/kg mark. The consignment from Mason and Brown, Clapham lead the way selling 40kg Texel lambs to £122 with continentals selling to £120. Heavy weight Suffolk lambs sold to hoggs price with heavy Suffolk’s selling to £120 from Helen Newton, Low Levens.

Prime Hoggs

The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs saw the full variety forward with good types of hoggs selling in to a stronger trade then previous weeks in which are required each week. Heavy weights an improved trade and lead the way in J36 today. Heavy weight Texel hoggs the way from Richard Wilson, Appleby selling to £160 and £150. Other heavy weights sold to £158 from GG & MA Long, Pennington for Texel’s with Cheviots to £146 with Leicester’s from the same home selling to the same price. Other leading prices saw Texel’s to £146 from VE & J Chadwick and Son, Sowerby followed by £142 from GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston. Heavy suffolks sold to £144 from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton. Plenty more pens of hoggs sold in the one hundred and thirties. Mule hoggs peaked at £136 for heavies from Edmondson Bros, Great Langdale.

A large number of hill bred hoggs in the market today saw the trade for horned hoggs peak at £117 from £117 from EW & JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge and AW & AM Clarke, Windermere.

Cast Ewe Report

Trade goes from strength to strength in the cast ewe ring with Texel ewes leading the way selling to £197 from WS Burrow & Sons, Silverdale with others to £189 M&S Blease, Carnforth. The best Texel ewes were regularly selling to £180plus mark with the next level down £150 plus. Leicester ewes sold to £184 from Calderside Farm, Garstang with other leicester ewes to £178 from TA Ladds, Kendal. Heavy Teeswater ewes from DE&J Waine, Longsleddle sold to £169 with others from the same home selling to £140. Suffolk ewes sold to a top of £168 from H Newton, Levens. Hampshire’s selling to £167 from J&O Galbraith, Endmoor. Mule ewes saw another lifting trade with the best selling £140 plus topping at £146 from JD, EM, JA Atkinson, Skelsmergh with others to £145 from M Salton, Kendal. 120 mules forward averaged £110. All hill ewes saw an impressive trade with Cheviot selling to £128 from G Nelson, Brigsteer with a full pen of Rough Fells selling to £123 from E Clark, Appleby. Swaledale’s topped at £111 from R&E Ladds, Kendal with the best regularly selling well over the £100 mark with the next level down selling £80-£85.

Another big entry of cast rams forward at J36 with all selling to a full value, topping at £208 for a Leicester tup from GG&MA Long, Ulverston with Cheviots selling to £172 from Strickland Hill. Buyers are requesting all types of cast ewes and rams for the up coming weeks.
