Spring Lambs
Today saw the first entry of spring lambs of the season forward which were consigned by S Wilson & Son, Scotforth the trade peaked at £144 for 48kg Texels with a top pence for kilo of 310p for 44kg lambs. Dorsets sold to £130 or 302p/kg with in speciation spring lambs averaged 305p/kg.
Prime Hoggs
There was a sharper trade for all specification of prime hoggs today, with once again handy weighted hoggs best to sell and averaging 260p/kg. Better confirmation prime hoggs easily sold in excess of the 300p/kg mark. It was a consignment of heavy weigh hoggs from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth that led the way selling to £155, £152 and £149, averaging just shy of the £150 mark. Matching the top price today of £150 was heavy weight Texel hoggs from JM&MH France & Son, Littledale. Texel hoggs from F&SG Sanderson & Son, Woodplumpton peaked at £140. Heavy weight Suffolks sold to a top of £135 from AG Butler, Hambleton with plenty of heavy weight hoggs regularly selling around the £130 mark. Beltex hoggs twice peaked at £140 from AG Butler, followed by others to £138 and £135 from Kevin Purtill, Wigan.
Top pence per kilo today was 330p from AG Butler, with the run from Kevin Purtill to 325p, 321p, and 317p. Upland hoggs saw heavy weight Mules sell to £125.50 from F&SG Sanderson & Son with Cheviots peaking at £118 from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet. Plenty of pens of Mules and Mashams regularly sold in the hundreds and teens. Horned hoggs saw 46kg Swaledales sell to £108 from T Longton & Son, Quernmore with 43kg to £101.50.
Cast Sheep
The heat remains on for cast sheep with all forward this week averaging an impressive £118.65. Texel ewes from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale led the way selling to £207, with Charollais x ewes from the same home to £166. At £187 was a Texel x ewe from E Lund & Son, Ingleton this was followed by others to £164 from JM&MH France & Son, Littledale. Leicester ewes peaked at £159 from M&L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. Masham ewes sold to £144 and £140 from DC Miller, Claughton on Brock. Other Masham ewes sold to £140 from S&J France, Over Wyresdale. Mule ewes peaked at £139 from B&J Preston, Caton with others to £138 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne followed by £136 from M&J Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale and £134 from JET & AAE Hull, Winmarleigh. Upland ewes saw Cheviots sell to £130 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. The Horned ewe trade peaked at £124 from S&J France, Over Wyresdale with Swaledale ewes to £115 from DC Miller, Claughton on brock.
