Sheep with Lambs at Foot
The largest entry seen so far of this season, saw quality in big demand and which more strong outfits could have been sold to the advantage of the vendors. The sale commenced with a special consignment from Jimmy Bell and Rachel Buckle, Lanark, topping this consignment was a Texel gimmer shearling with twin Dutch Spotted x grade 4 lambs at foot selling to £350, followed by other Texel shearlings with twin Dutch Spotted x grade 4 lambs at foot selling to £340 and a Beltex gimmer shearling with stylish Dutch Spotted x lambs sold to £320. The weekly consignment from J&R Waller, Killington met another strong trade selling aged Continental ewes with twins at foot to £305 and £290. Texel x shearlings with single lambs at foot sold to £220 and £200 from JR Robinson & Son, Nook. Aged Mules with young Texel twin lambs at foot sold to £158 from B&D Willison & Son, Levens. Aged continental ewes with single Continental lambs at foot sold to £180 from JW&E Woof & Son, Sedbergh.

Prime Hoggs
The weekly sale of prime hoggs today had the full spectrum forward from the good, the bad and the ugly as to be expected for this time of year. 758 forward sold to an overall market averaged to 238p/kg, with handy weighted Continental hoggs averaging 268p/kg. Beltex hoggs led the way today with a consignment from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston selling to £158 and £157 peaking at 375p/kg. All handy weighted Beltex hoggs forward averaged 343p/kg. Texel hoggs sold to £147 or 335p/kg from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston. Heavy weigh hoggs were a sharper trade today selling to £139 at 48kg from CG Birkett, Carnforth with other heavy weight Texels to £138 from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston. Suffolk hoggs peaked at £134.50 from LF Horton & Son, Cheshire. Plenty of pens of heavy’s sold around the one hundred and thirty mark. Mule hoggs were a sharper trade today with 48kg hoggs selling to £119.50 from LF Horton & Son followed by other Mules to £117 from EW&JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge. Horned hoggs today peaked at £114 for Rough Fells from Amy Harrison, Kentmere with Swaledales peaking at £111 from EW&JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge.

Cast Sheep
The weekly sale of cast sheep saw an entry of over 300 forward, with the trade remaining as strong as ever. Suffolk ewes led the way today selling to a top of £188 from RW&SA Nicholas, Lupton. Leicesters sold to £172 from D Sharp, Lyth. Texel ewes sold to a top of £170 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth with other Texel ewes to £168 from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston. The best Continental bred ewes sold to the £150-£155 mark with the next level down £120-£130. Mule ewes continue to be a sharp trade with the best selling into the £140 mark, topping at £146 from R Cowin & Sons, Mansergh and others to £143 from WJ Standen & Son, Lancaster. Medium fit Mule ewes sold at the £115-£125 mark. Hill ewes continued to be well bid for with Swaledales leading the way at £118 from CS Long & RH Knipe, Grange Over Sands and the best selling over the £100 mark with medium types £75-£85. Rough Fells saw a top of £106 from G&C Rylands, Underbarrow.
Cast rams continued to be a flying trade at junction 36 with Texels selling twice to £198 from M& YS Barker, Burton in Kendal and J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston who also sold Suffolks to £160. Leicesters sold to £150 from S&W Dickinson, Tebay.
