Prime Pigs sell to £138.

An improved trade for prime pigs at North West Auctions J36 saw a top price of £138 achieved for a Pietrain x Saddleback hog from PK&R Woof, Stainton which also tops the p/kg section achieving 117p/kg. A trio of Pietrain x Large White gilts and hogs from J Stott Jnr, Stainton sold to £122 and £120. Other heavy well finished prime hogs and gilts regularly sold at £110-£118, with medium weights £95-£105 and lighter weights £75-£85. Buyers keen to secure well finished gilts and hoggs but showing caution to out of specification prime boars.
Several pens of stores and weans sold to an increased interest, selling to £36 from Gloucester Old Spot weaners from MK&LK Whitley & Son, Summerbridge who sold others at £32. Other cross bred store pigs sold to £28 from SP Phoenix, Preston.
The next sale of pigs is on Tuesday 12th April, which will include the Easter show for pairs of prime pigs.
