A large amount of confidence in the sheep ring today for the 650 hoggs forward, the trade saw Continental hoggs in big demand as short keep hoggs regularly sold in excess of the £100 mark. The trade peaked at £125 from Texel hoggs from BJ Bowness, Kendal followed by £121 from MB Flatman & Son, Over Wyresdale with others selling to £116 and £115 from the same home. Other noted prices for Texel hoggs were £114, £111.50 and £110 from Lawkland Hall Farm. Suffolk hoggs sold to a top of £116 from HJ&BE Kelsall, Gressingham. This was followed by Charollais hoggs to £112 from GM Redmayne, Ings and £110 from SJ Middleton, Dent. Mule hoggs peaked at £99 from SJ Middleton with other Mule hoggs to £99 from MG Tomlinson, Derbyshire. Middle term keep Mule and Continental hoggs regularly sold around the nineties. Strong Horned hoggs sold to a very good trade with Rough Fells to £107 from I&J Mallinson, Selside with Swaledales selling to £83 from DM Eames, Abbeystead. Unfortunately, long keep Horned hoggs were harder to place today. There was an impressive overall market average of £86.96.
