J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Early Breeding Sheep Sale followed by Fortnightly Store Lamb Sale, Thursday 28th July 2022

Breeding Sheep
North West Auctions J36 held its annual opening early breeding sheep sale which saw a busy ring of buyers looking to purchase replacement breeding sheep. The consignment of pedigree Dorsets from Sophie and Natalie Waller, Killington saw gimmer shearlings to £245 and one crop ewes to £235. The consignment of pedigree Dorsets from MJ&LC Lund, Quernmore saw gimmer shearlings to £240 and £200. Texel gimmer shearlings from IM Jaeban, Cockermouth sold to £215. Beltex gimmer shearlings sold to £195 from MC&AE Staley, Kirkby Stephen. Suffolk x Mule gimmer shearlings peaked at £195 from A&L Robinson, Priest Hutton with big Suffolk x two and three crop ewes selling to £188 from M Kennedy, Appleby. Mule gimmer shearlings twice sold to £185 with other Mule gimmer shearlings to £180 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne. Cheviot Mule gimmer shearlings peaked at £180 from J Stott Jr, Crosscrake. Older Mule ewes regularly sold around the £140 mark.

Store Lambs
The fortnightly sale of store lambs at junction 36 had an increased entry of just over 1400 forward, this week selling to plenty of demand with plenty of people keen to purchase despite the fall in fat trade this week. Strong Texel lambs led the way selling to £102 from RA Batty, Heversham with others to £101.50 from JG&BJ Escolme, Killing. Beltex lambs sold to £100 from PD&P Mason, Burton in Kendal with other Beltex lambs to £96 from TL&B Knowles, Selside. Plenty of pens of strong short keep Continental store lambs selling in the mid to late £80’s. Mule lambs peaked at £84 from OR Hodgson, Old Hutton with Cheviot lambs to £83.50 from G&B Ball & Son, Little Eccleston followed by others to £82 from HE&M Henderson, Dent with strong pens of Mule lambs selling in the region of £80. All store lambs forward today averaged £79.40.
