J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Pigs, Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep, Tuesday 26th July 2022.

Pigs

Pigs sell to £130 and 149p/kg at NWA J36.

North West Auctions held its popular sale of all classes of pigs, with customers travelling from far and wide.
Prime pigs sold to £130 for a Duroc x hog from R Holland, Millom with White hogs and gilts from GM&DJ Pye, Arkholme selling at £122. Other prime pigs sold to £120 from TS Wilson, Cockermouth and £112 from B Horsley, Leyburn. Top p/kg was 149p/kg for White gilts from GM&DJ Pye, Arkholme.
A bumper entry of cull sows and boars sold to £95 from RJ&R Holden, Millom with others to £65 from C&J Bennett, Preston.
Store Pigs sold to £54 for large White x from S Phoenix, Preston with Pietrain x achieving £51 from NJ Wilkinson, Barrow in Furness. Weaners sold to £53 from S Whitley, Harrogate with large Whites to £42 from S Phoenix, Preston.

Prime Lambs

Special Mention goes to Tex Factor Show and Sale of pens of 5 lambs sired by Texel rams. This is kindly supported and sponsored by North West Breeders Club Sale in which there are 332 Pedigree Texels entered for the sale on Sunday 14th August with catalogues available at the end of this week.

Show Results:

1st Prize - GR & A Foy & Son, Parkside Farm with 5 Lambs at £130 weighing 42kg.
2nd Prize- GR & A Foy & Son, Parkside Farm with 5 Lambs at £120 weighing 40kg.
3rd Prize- M & S Blease, The Barn with 5 Lambs at £125 weighing 46kg.

The weekly sale of prime lambs saw over 1600 forward with the national average sliding due to larger numbers forward.
Well finished, heavy weight lambs continue to attract keen buyer interest with 45-50kg averaging 243p/kg and selling to £142 for Texel x from JA &LR Wilson, Millom with others regularly £128-£135. Standard lambs sold to £115 from AE Atkinson & Son, Endmoor with light weights to £96 from GG & MA Long, Pennington.
Top p/kg this week was 309p/kg achieved for Texel x lambs from GR & A Foy Lancaster with other well-bred lambs generally 260p/kg-290p/kg depending on weight.
Vendors are encouraged to draw well finished lambs for the weekly prime lamb sale with buyers cautious of under finished lambs.

Cast Sheep

A larger entry of 710 ewes saw heavy and pure bred ewes easily sold topping at £216 for a Suffolk from RT & ME Sutton, Kendal with Texels to £176 from T&CM Kelsall, Chipping. Too many pens to mention at £150-£170. Mules sold to £147 from WR Clarke & Partners, Carnforth with others ewes £130-£145. Hill ewes sold to £124 for Swaledales from Drinkall Bros, Lancaster with Cheviots to £122, Dalesbreds to £100 and Herdwicks to £93.
Cull Rams sold to £177 for a Suffolk from J & C Airey with others to £162 from R Oldfield, Carnforth.
All Ewes averaged £95.78 and all rams average £101.67.
