Prime Lambs at J36 top at £192
The weekly sale of prime lambs at J36 Rural Auction Centre saw an increased entry of 1332 forward today. Those who have fed and finished their lambs with some weight have been finically rewarded in J36 today, as weight continues to pay with 45kg to 52 kg lambs averaging up at 287p/kg. The market peaked at £192 for a heavy weight Suffolk cross lamb from Helen Newton, Low Levens whom also sold heavy weight Texel lambs too £162. Other leading prices for heavy weight Texel’s were £158 from KE Richards & Son, Howgill, £157 from C&G Bennett, St Michaels, £155 F&SA Edmondson, Ulverston, £153 from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington, £151 from TMW&H Hodgson, Ulverston, £150.50 from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland and £150 from D&D Huddleston, Wray. The Suffolk trade peaked at £154 and £149 from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland with others to £148 from J Scott & Co, Clark in Cartmel. Better bred confirmation lambs regularly sold in the region of the 300p/kg mark.

The ewe trade was as hot as the weather, with ewes being £10 up on the week.

• All Mule ewes forward averaged £104.50, topping at £145 from NW&EM Mason & Son, Middleton.
• Cheviots sold to £159 from JT&A Armistead, Selside.
• Swaledales topped at £110 from JS&S Atkinson, Scorton.
