Prime Lambs
A sharper trade for prime lambs in Lancaster this morning with an entry of 700 forward averaging 291p/kg. Weight continues to be in bring demand and adding up well. The trade peaked today at £158 twice from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock with Texel lambs weighing 58kg and 51kg with 50kg lambs from the same home to £151. Other leading prices for Texel lambs were £155 and £150 from T & H Drinkall, Oakenclough with others to £153 from CP & V Cowgill, Bentham, £152 from KA Purtill, Wigan and £151 from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead. Heavy weight suffolks peaked at £157 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale with 48kg Suffolk’s selling to £146 from Steph Cowgill, Bentham. Beltex lambs peaked at £149 or 340p/kg for the consignment from JS Horner, Ingleton with other lambs from the same home selling to £148. Plenty of pens sold in the one hundred and forties today. A good run of Mule and Masham lambs forward today from S & J France, Over Wyresdale sold 48kg Mules to £132 and Mashams at 43kg to £122.50. Mules at 37kg sold to £96 from AC & P Pye, Abbeystead.
Cast Sheep
The numbers of cast sheep remain tight following the festival last week. The trade in Lancaster peaked at £166 for a Texel cross from CF Hargreaves, Overton. Mule ewes sold to £130 from GF & EE Holt, Chipping with others to £126 and £124 from R Doran, Winmarleigh with plenty more selling around the one hundred and twenty mark. Horned sheep saw swaledales peak at £82 from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead.
