Prime Hoggs
A similar number of prime hoggs were forward to the previous weeks, which sold to an overall market average of 243p/kg and SQQ of 247p/kg. Handy weighted hoggs remain in strong demand with trade for these types only slightly less than the previous week. It was the heavy weight hoggs that have seen the most decline, as a large number of these now come on to the market. Light weight hill bred hoggs also saw a decline in trade. The consignment of well bred Texel hoggs from M&S Blease, Carnforth led the way selling to £141 at 54kg, with others to £135 and £134, as the whole consignment averaged £135. Other heavy weight hoggs saw Texels to £135.50 from PA&D Slater, Barnacre. Heavy weight Suffolk hoggs sold to £133 from MW&M Hodgson, Cartmel Fell, with other heavy weight Suffolks to £132 WT Whittaker & Son, Nether Kellet. Beltex hoggs sold to £128 twice or a top of 315p/kg from PD&P Mason, Burton in Lonsdale. Mule hoggs sold to £113 from RJ Holden, Burton in Furness.

Cast Sheep
400 ewes went under the hammer with trade being a pound or two sharper on the week, the best quality ewes were in strong demand and looking well sold. Texels sold to £176 from J Scott Jnr, Crosscrake. Leicesters sold to £149 twice from TA&JA Dixon, Selside and D Sharp, Lyth. Suffolks sold to £151 from AJ Waring, The Green followed by £149 from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe. A run of Beltex ewes from PD&PJ Mason, Burton in Kendal sold to a top of £147. Strong Continental ewes regularly sold in the £120 to £130 mark. Mule ewes sold to a top of £128 from JN&DJ Bowes, Crook, with many of the best selling at £120 plus. Good medium type fit Mule ewes sold at £105-£110. A run of Cheviot Mule ewes were forward, selling to a top of £118 from CI Briggs, Wray. Hill bred ewes would be the trade of the day, with some being £5-£8 dearer on the week. Cheviots sold to a top of £99 from SI Porter, Grange Over Sands. Rough Fells sold to £88 from JA&M Mawson, Orton. Swaledales peaked at £126 from SI Porter, Grange Over Sands, with the next level down selling between the £75-£80 mark. A pen full of Herdwicks sold to a top of £74 from SW&A Hogarth, Seathwaite.
Rams sold to £189 for a pair of Texels from MR Toms, Great Langdale. Leicesters topped at £128 from M Todd, Longsleddale.
