PRIME LAMBS

The weekly sale of prime lambs at Lancaster saw 640 lambs go through the ring selling to an improved trade with more lambs needed weekly to satisfy our keen ring side of buyers. Loyal Lancaster supporter JS Horner, Ingleton sold Suffolks to a top price of £143. Texel lambs peaked of £129 from AG Butler, Hamilton, with others selling to £128 from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston. Beltex lambs sold to top price of £123 from GR&A Foy, Conder Green, with these selling to a top price per kilo at 276p. Other Beltex lambs sold to £122 from GM&A Jackson, part of the impressive run of 40 lambs which averaged £119.45. Heavy Continental bred lambs were the trade of the day, regularly selling between £110 and £120. Heavy Mules from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale sold to £113.50. More hill lambs on offer today topping with Cheviots selling to £115.50 from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead. A full pen of Dalesbreds from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton sold to £92.50. A run of Swaledale tups from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead sold to £89.

CAST SHEEP

An impressive return for all cast sheep at Lancaster today with a pair of pure-bred Texel ewes from GR&A Foy, Conder Green selling to £168. A full pen of Texels from KA Purtill, Wigan selling to £133 with Mule ewes from the same home selling to £99. More cast ewes are needed to fulfil our full ring of buyers’ requirements.
