J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly sale of Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep, 23rd November 2021

PRIME LAMBS

A bumper entry of 1620 prime lambs forward, sold to another solid trade at Junction 36, averaging 270p/kg. Once again best quality lambs sold in excess of the 300p/kg mark. Heavy weight lambs continue to be in big demand at Junction 36 peaking at £157 for 55kg Beltex lambs from GR&A Foy, Conder Green. Heavy weight Suffolk lambs also topped at £157 from MW&M Hodgson, Cartmel Fell. this was closely followed by Texels to £150 from AR&BJ Thompson, Selside, with other Texel lambs to £148 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe. Plenty more pens of heavy weight lambs sold in the region of one hundred and forty pounds. Beltex lambs peaked at 335p/kg from CB Kendal, Grayrigg followed by others to 330p/kg from JG&PH Thompson, Selside, with plenty more pens of better confirmation lambs selling in excess of the 300p/kg mark. All Beltex lambs forward averaged 308p/kg. Many pens of well finished, handy weighted lambs regularly sold in the region of the 280p/kg mark.
Upland lambs saw Cheviots peak at £137.50 weighing 51kg from J Allonby & Son, Grayrigg. Mules peaked at £134 from JM Simpson, Underbarrow, followed by other pens of Mule to £127.50 from P Whitton & Son, Burneside. All Mule lambs forward averaged 261p/kg. Horned lambs sold to a top of £111 for Rough Fells from P&S Hoggarth, Sedbergh.

CAST SHEEP

A ‘Liquorice allsorts’ assortment of cast sheep were forward today at Junction 36, with 550 going through the ring. Tups topped the trade with a Texel hitting the hights, selling at £225 consigned by H Geldard, Levens.
Ewes met a strong trade with Texels selling to £128 from AR Gornall, Crossthwaite, with others Texels selling to £123 from JG&PH Thompson, Selside. Suffolks sold to a top of £128 from JE Whiteman, Lupton. Charollais sold to £121 from AR Gornall, Crossthwaite. Many meated Continental cross bred ewes regularly sold between the £110-£115 mark. Mule ewes sold to a solid trade with a top of £117 from RR&J Knowles, Docker with others to £113 from A&B Fell, Silecroft. Many of the best Mule ewes sold well over the one hundred pound mark. Medium types sold to the eighty to eighty five mark.
Hill ewes would be sharper on the week with Scotch ewes leading the way selling to £93 from GL Ibbertson, Roeburndale. Cheviots sold to £87 from P Whitton & Son, Burneside. Meated Swaledale ewes sold to a premium with the best selling to £78 from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans, with the best end selling well over the seventy pound mark with medium types selling either side of the fifty pound mark.
More sheeps are required for next weeks sales with buyers requesting more meat on the market.
