J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Store Lambs, 4th November 2021

STORE LAMBS

The fortnightly sale of store lambs at Junction 36 had an increased entry of 4049, selling to an increased demand, which saw a stronger trade in keeping with the recent spike in the prime lamb trade. A busy ring side of buyers consisting of regular, returning and new buyers ensured demand for all specifications of lambs, with an overall market average of £79.82.
Beltex lambs led the way selling to £115 from R&E Ladds, Kendal, followed by other Beltex lambs selling to £110 from DR Harrison, Selside, followed by £106 from JT&A Armistead, Selside. Texels lambs peaked at £108.50 three times from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington, MW&MR Black, Staveley and JM Harrison, Broughton in Furness. This was closely followed by others selling to £107.50 from AJ&SE Burrow, Milnthorpe and £107 from T Smith, Ulverston. Plenty of pens of well fleshed short term Texel lambs regularly sold around the £100 mark. A larger number of upland bred lambs were forward on the market today, which saw Mules sell to £100.50 from RM&D Dixon, Longsleddale. Cheviot lambs peaking at £100 from Thrimby Farms, Penrith. Plenty of pens of strong Mule lambs regularly sold around the £90 mark. Horned lambs saw Rough Fells peak at £89 from TLB&J Knowles, Selside. With plenty of pens of Horned lambs regularly selling into the early seventies.
