Store Hoggs
Tantalising Texels top the trade at £126 on a thoroughly lightening trade, never seen as good before at this time of year. A market average of £96.37 was achieved – yes you have read that right!!!
There was an entry of 949 hoggs, the only downside of the day being that we did not have quadruple the amount to meet buyers huge demand.
Best short-keep Continental and Suffolk hoggs regularly sold around the 120 pound mark. Topping at £126 were Texel hoggs from M & M Carr, Burton, £125 for Texels from M Allen, Yeland Conyers and £122 was twice achieved for Texels from CF Hoggarth & Son, Burneside and JA Chapman, Singleton Park, with £120 achieved by DR & C Galbraith, Grayrigg.
Suffolks sold to a top of £116 from JD Dixon, Flookburgh and £114 from PG Thornton, Scorton. Masham hoggs peaked at £110.50 from W & J Penny, Kirkby in Furness with Cheviots selling to £105 from G GU & D Swarbrick, Meathop and Mules at £100 from JD Dixon, Flookburgh. Horned hoggs sold to £88 from High Wardses Farm, Sedbergh with Herdwicks achieving the same price from KJ Knight, Kirkby in Furness.

Mules sold to £100, averaging £92.50
Swaledales sold to £84, averaging £79.65
Charollais sold to £109.50, averaging £107.83
Cheviots sold to £105, averaging £97.13
Texels sold to £126, averaging £101.86
